HOME IN MY HEART

COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS  WEEK 4 – 23 DEC 18

 HOME IN MY HEART

 BACKGROUND

Welcome to Infinity church. We hope you feel at home here today. Christmas is a time when we all come home to be with the ones we love. It can be a sad time if you don’t have close family – we have Christmas lunch here.

 STORY.

What every life needs is that home connection – to have a place where you feel you belong, you’re wanted, needed and loved. To find that sometimes requires a step of faith….

 Jackie Pullinger’s life story

Jackie was a young woman who studied music who left England at the age of 22 because she felt God called her to be a missionary. She hopped on a boat and decided to get off the boat when she felt she had arrived at the destination God had chosen. She arrived in Hong Kong and because a dream she had she got off and with $10 in hand started to work as a teacher in what was called the walled city, helping drug addicts find hope and help through meeting Jesus. She created a home for the most hopeless damaged and broken people

IMAGINE THE FEELING IN HER HEART – THE CHALLENGE TO LEAVE A HOME OF COMFORT AND STEP OUT INTO THE UNKNOWN.

Luke 1:26-38    NLT

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”

29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. 30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. 36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the word of God will never fail.”

38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.

IMAGINE THE CHALLENGE PRESENTED TO MARY THAT DAY.

IMAGINE THE LIFE ALTERING DECISION SHE WAS PRESENTED WITH –

WAS SHE HOPING FOR AN ORDINARY LIFE?

WAS SHE THINKING ABOUT HOW HER PLANS FOR HAPPINESS WITH JOSEPH WAS ALL ABOUT MAKING A HOME FOR THIS LITTLE FAMILY?

WHY ME? WHY DID GOD PICK ME?

NOW IT WAS ALL ABOUT OTHERS – TO LET GOD BRING FORTH A BABY THROUGH HER WHO WOULD CHANGE THE WORLD.

Sometimes in life we are presented with an opportunity – to do something that would really challenge the status quo, would really move you out of your comfort zone.

It’s a call to something higher, something greater, something that would make life different for others. As you think about it you will realise it will make waves, someone wont like it! People around you will wonder how you could make such a decision, but you know it’s just got to happen.

While there might be a sense of adventure within it – when this call comes to step out, like what happened to Jackie Pullinger, there is real fear there too.

Jackie Pullinger responded to God’s invitation, thousands of lives have been changed.

The same for Mary, real fear of what this decision would ultimately mean.

How would this change her life? Could she say “No.”??

And yet there was something supernatural happening, God was real and she was being called to something greater to live a life that was above the ordinary.

Would she let God into her life in such a way that the Son of God would be birthed within her? A step that would change her life forever.

She just decided to push past all the fear; set aside all the questions, and say yes to God.

 NOW IT’S YOUR TURN.
